About Us ...

Members of the Lyda family have been farming in North Carolina since the 1700s. William and Mary Jane Lyda started farming this land in the 1870s, followed by their son, Cebron, and his wife, Hester Byers Lyda. It was somewhere in those early days that our family members first determined that apples would flourish in the rich soil and the cool climate in the North Carolina mountains around Edneyville and Hendersonville.

Rome Lyda, their son, has continued the family farm. He married Mildred Hudgins in 1948, and together, Rome and Mildred have been operating the farm ever since.

Rome and Jeff Lyda, father and son, now own Lyda Farms of Hendersonville, North CarolinaRome, or "Dada" as many call him, remains active on the farm, scooting around in his golf cart to lend a hand wherever possible.

Deb Lyda Foster works on the family farm, Lyda Farms of Hendersonville, North CarolinaDoing much of the physical work are their three children. Jeff works behind the scenes to bring each crop to harvest. Deb is in charge of marketing and advertising.

Mildred Lyda and her daughter Sonna, at Lyda Farms, Hendersonville, North CarolinaSonna works part-time to help with fall sales at the market, as does Rome's great niece, Stacie, while she finishes her college degree. Mildred, or "Millie," is the CEO, and oversees and plans all farm activities.

We sell our fruits and vegetables at the farm market, located on the farm, from August through November, and also operate The Rusty Bucket, located 1/10th of a mile down the road, which opens earlier in June. Visitors may want to visit both markets, as there are some seasonal differences in varieties and other farm products available.
